Aurizon Ultrasonics, LLC, to Unveil New Rotary Sealing Applications at PACK EXPO 2011 in Las Vegas

KIMBERLY, Wis., Aug. 31, 2011 — Aurizon Ultrasonics, LLC, is accelerating its participation in the packaging industry by introducing its new 40 kilohertz (kHz) rotary sealing technology for high-speed packaging applications in Booth C2306 at PACK EXPO 2011.

Aurizon Ultrasonics, a leader in the application of rotary ultrasonic technology used in high-speed processing solutions for personal care product converting, will showcase its rotary technology for a wide variety of packaging applications, including longitudinal seals on both vertical and horizontal form-fill-seal applications and flow wrappers. The 40 kHz rotary sealing system will demonstrate sealing films at speeds up to 200 feet per minute, although the system is capable of running much faster.

Aurizon also is using its PACK EXPO exhibit to introduce its cutting-edge concept for utilizing rotary ultrasonic technology in a high-speed cross-sealing application. The process makes possible simultaneous high-speed sealing and cutting operations in both vertical and horizontal processes.

"While we're excited about the potential for our rotary technology to offer immediate improvements in high-speed, machine-direction seals on packages, we recognize that cross-direction seals can be a key source of seal failures in many applications," said Bob Cool, Executive Vice President, Aurizon Ultrasonics. "We believe the cross-direction seal concept that we will be introducing at Pack Expo offers exciting potential in delivering a robust, programmable and fully ultrasonic sealing solution for many packaging applications."

Ultrasonic technology offers distinct advantages over traditional heat sealing. Because materials are heated from within, bonds are formed faster and without regard for the thermal conductivity of the materials being bonded. "Compared to heat sealing, ultrasonic technology is faster and more energy efficient, with light-bulb-like wattage required for most sealing operations," said Cool.

The Aurizon Ultrasonics team is engaged in the research, development and commercialization of novel, high-power ultrasonic process solutions for industrial applications. In addition to its expertise in rotary ultrasonic technology, the company will showcase its:

  • Ultrasonic nozzle technology, an efficient and effective means of improving the atomization of low-viscosity liquids or enabling the atomization of highly viscous liquids without nozzle clogging, and

  • Ultrasonic liquid processing technology, an effective alternative to traditional batch processing that can dramatically improve the blending of difficult ingredients, the emulsification of multi-component formulations, and the dispersion of particle agglomerates, including those containing nanoparticles.

Formed in 2009 as a spin-out from a major consumer products company, Aurizon Ultrasonics offers patented technology and a staff with more than 100 years of combined experience in the research, engineering, and manufacturing of high-power ultrasonic systems. The company takes a unique approach to ultrasonic technology development, focusing on the efficient delivery of power to the point in the process where it will bring the most positive effect. www.aurizonultrasonics.com
